...or, I Want to Live on a Dahlia Farm

Two Pony Gardens is a little slice of heaven just west of Minneapolis. They grow and sell dahlias and heirloom tomatoes and they host regular pizza nights during the growing season. When I got an e-mail inviting people to the farm to wander around and enjoy the last of the dahlias, I could barely contain my excitement. Dahlias are one of my favorite flowers (thanks to my dear friend Rachel and her Daybreak Dahlias), and I'm always trying to remind myself to shoot more just for fun. I don't know how long I wandered through those narrow rows of blooms, my feet cold and wet, happily clicking away, stopping every so often to play with an energetic chocolate lab puppy, but by the time I left I felt like I was floating. Pure bliss. I'm sharing just a fraction of the photos I took that morning. Huge thanks to Lisa for the invitation, the apples, and for creating this pocket of beauty.

I could probably populate my whole website with all the photos I've taken of my friends Sarah and Anton and their beautiful family (starting when Sarah was pregnant with the first kiddo), but that wouldn't be fair to everyone else, would it? Still, I love getting to document families as they grow and change. These kids definitely keep me on my toes -- which usually makes for the best portraits.

...or, When I Got to Show Up at the Fine Line and Say, "I'm With the Band."

My friend Lindsay has a voice that will knock your socks off, and lucky for us, she found a great band in which to showcase that voice. Skitzo Fonik cover everything from Bruno Mars to Michael Jackson to Katy Perry to Gloria Gaynor (they do a killer version of "I Will Survive"). They have crazy amounts of energy and will play for hours and you find yourself repeating "I love this song!" to songs you didn't even KNOW you liked. You guys, they're really good. Check our their schedule and go see a show already.

They knew they'd be all gussied up for a wedding gig at the Fine Line recently, so they asked me to take some promotional shots. And they were a blast to work with. When work doesn't feel like work, you know you've hit the sweet spot.

Friends! Because my e-mail was set up through my old website, I kind of broke it when I switched to my new site. That means that any e-mails that were sent between Thursday morning (9/10) and Friday night (9/11) got lost. They're out there swimming in cyberspace somewhere; maybe they're having a little Lost E-mail Party with fancy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. If you've sent me an e-mail over the past couple days and were wondering why you haven't heard back from me, please accept my apologies and PLEASE try again! Here, I'll make it easy for you...

Fall is always such a great time for photo sessions -- the summer heat is gone, everything outside takes on that warm, rustic glow, and although it pains me to say it, it's never too early to start thinking ahead to holiday cards and letters (though I still cringe when I see the Christmas displays being set up the second after Halloween is over). A mini session is the perfect way to get some fresh, new photos to use for cards, gifts, or just because.
